Drastic Action Needed at the Coast

Drastic Action Needed at the Coast

By Elton Camp

A hurricane has hit the coast again

More millions we are expected to spend

It seems to me it is a shame once more

To spend taxes to help them as before

Too close to the ocean such a place lies

So serious problems are not a surprise

I build my house out on a flood plain

It's destroyed, I've no right to complain

Should I expect that any others will pay

So I can rebuild exactly in harm's way?

I should build back only when I've found

A place located on much higher ground

The coast's cry for help we've hated

When what is needed is to be relocated

This basic truth many folks will resent

But enough of our taxes have been spent

Another thing that I just have to say

Those living there should move away

There are lots of fine places to reside

Far from hurricanes and storm tide

They say how they love their view

I'd enjoying seeing the ocean, too

They who opt to live in a foolish place

At their expense disaster should face
