THE TREE

One time, when I was in the hospital, I shared poetry with a fellow who talked about writing poems like they were written by  something natural , like a tree or flower.  I asked him if he would share some but he never did.  The idea intrigued me and one afternoon I wrote, "The Tree."

                  THE TREE

A tree that's one with earth and sky

Stands and watches life go by,

Music is made, like in your dreams,

The song is sung by bubbling streams.

Creatures come from far and near,

A rabbit, a bird, perhaps a deer,

If you're quiet beneath this great old tree,

The wonders of nature are there to see.

Critters large and critters small,

Some that jump or hop or crawl.

Special thing that share our earth,

Life like this is beyond mere worth.

To share the tree with a winter storm,

Wind and rain through branches torn.

The peace that come when the storm is done

The misty glow of the raising sun.

The renewal of life when in the spring

New buds are formed, new blossoms bring

A promise that the tree will stand

Always at peace with earth and land.

I share with you this simple verse,

And hope you understand the earth,

Is yours and mine to use and share,

In perfect peace, because we care.

I will not look at a tree the same again. All that a tree goes through while growing and living you tell it well here. This is one of those deeper meaning poems that I like.
