TANNY'S POEM
Tanny was a pretty boy. This is not a put down but rather a definition of how he looked. He was tall, very gentle in manner, and looked baby faced. Tanny would walk and talk with me in the yard, literally for miles. Tanny had brain damage from the use of drugs, notably cocaine. He knew of this damage and could relate to the problems it caused. He came from a very wealthy environment and his sense of values was not usual for prison life. Tanny picked up many friends that could and did look out for him. He had problems with drugs available in the system and maintained that he was in control of it. I hope so. I'm afraid that Tanny does not have the motivation to stay "clean."
TANNY'S POEM
The sparkle of your eye, the light that's in your smile.
The music of your voice, brightens my day a while.
Many times we pass with just a gentle touch.
My fingers speak to you, 'cause I care so much.
You fill my heart with your warm glow.
And it's hard for me to let you grow.
For grow you must, at your own speed.
And gain the knowledge to meet your needs.
And as you grow and become more learned.
Value the lesson in life you've earned.
I think you're special and I say it very clear,
This gray old man that loves you, will always want you near.
But in my heart I know this will never be,
I only hope there's times when you'll remember me.
The time we've spent together, the things in life we share,
Our lives will be much better, just because we care.
