CRY OF THE DRAGON - A PEOPLE POEM

One of the activities in the card room were table games and one of the most popular was Dungeons and Dragons.  It is easy to understand the popularity of this game of fantasy.  You could create your own world and populate it with the creatures of your choice.  One of the regular players was Korey.  He would often be the Dungeon Master and it was his job to run the game.  I wrote this poem for him.

CRY OF THE DRAGON

There is a world deep in your mind,

Where dungeons dark and cold .

Call out to you to come and find,

Treasures of magic and gold.

You never know the real quest,

As you move in castle wall.

You'll always try and do your best,

Then you hear the dragon call.

A room of fear that's completely dark.

What monster's up ahead?

A noise you hear, a rasping breath.

Watch out! you could get dead.

A light is made, the broad sword flashes,

Orcs and gremlins fall

The battle quick, armor clashes

And you hear your dragon call.

Wizards wise, prophetize,

That in the towers tall.

Treasure you'll find beyond your mind,

And you feel your dragon call.

Elves you'll find, warlocks too,

Sometimes even a witch.

Maybe a dwarf, perhaps a nymph

Will make you test your wits.

You plan great schemes and yet it seems

You must deal with giants tall.

And at night it seems that in your dreams,

You know your dragons call.

So fly my friend the midnight skies,

Where secret fires burn.

Mount your dragon bold, with scales of gold,

Do good at ever turn.

Time will come, and you know it will,

When even dragons die.

There's a grey old man, who loves you still,

Will help you dry your eyes.

For in times past he too was bold,

At times he stood so tall.

His heart was there for all to hold,

For he answered his dragon's call

While I never got into D&D, I understand where you are coming from. You did Korey proud to honor him in this poem.
