BROTHER SUN - SISTER MOON

This poem was written for all tribes.  I gave it to one of the “Chiefs.” For this I was made an Honorary Brave.

BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON

To sit deep in a forest,

Or out on the desert sand,

To drift along quiet water,

Become as one with the land.

To know in truth we’re one.

With earth and sky and sea,

And really come to know

The worth of you and me.

To see the soaring Eagle,

To hear the cry of the loon.

And know we are one is spirit,

With Brother Sun and Sister Moon.

We hear the cry of nature

And hear them none too soon.

For there are things we do that sadden,

Brother Sun and Sister Moon.

Those guardians of the sky,

The Sun’s own healing light,

Followed by the Moon

That watches through the night.

Be thankful for the energy

From Brother Sun so bright.

And rest in peace with the Moon

Reflecting her brother’s light.

Side note:  I wore a mesh baseball cap when I was in the “yard.”  I would stick feathers in the cap.  The joke was, “when I get enough feathers I will fly out of this place!”  Then one afternoon one of the guards told me to “Get rid of the feathers.”  Why?  Because I was not an Indian!

now that's what I call a poem. The explanation about the spirits of nature really does goes into deep thoughts of the mind. This poem made my day!

You do the sun and the moon proud with this one. And to still our busy minds and lives long enough to enjoy this wonder is truly priceless.
