"Skin Deep"

If I could change the entire world with just a single wish

I would wish to end racism and abolish prejudice

Because I think there’s nothing worse today plaguing humanity

Than the fact that the different shades we possess, prevent our unity

How can one man look at another and know nothing about him

And hate him to the bone just because of his tone of skin

If a man is good, he’s good no matter if he’s white or black

If he’s evil, then he’s evil, his race doesn’t change that fact

It stinks to think that racism can really still exist

After the slave trade ships and genocides and Schindler’s twisted list

I’m not saying we should hold hands, skipping to a happy song

But let’s end all this foolish hatred just so we could get along

Why hate a man if you don’t know is race or understand what he’s about

It is nonsensical, unethical; it is a cowardice, easy way out

I wish that all mankind could just wake up and realize

And try to love a little more until racism dies.

Congratulations in trying to bring more understanding to the fact that we are all meant to be as we are. The colour of our skin is not what defines us... it helps to makes us who we are as unique individuals, but it does not define us as human beings. Our blood is the same colour, our eyes see the same things, even if sometimes our own judgements cloud/distort that view. You are a part of my soul family, where our spirits are who we are... not the bodies that our spirits live in. I honour your spirit and your experiences of this life.

Nicely written! I agree whole heartedly! It's too easy for some people to cry racism, still in this day and age; and even more unfortunate their cries are heard, resounding like cannons in the battlefields. Racism is ugly; always has been, always will be.

i have on my shelves entitled "skin deep" funny though, it is about skin disorders (like a medical journal type) anyway, your writing is very poignant. i love the message here and it's simplicity and straightforward style. for me, i'd like to see it with a little more poetic elements- it's lovely, and meaningful but with some work on the flow of the lines the message would "sing" and not just sound as if we're having a general conversation. it's needs just a tinge of poeticism to bring it to life for me. hope you dont mind my criticism- i love poetry and writing- and yours is good. i know you could make it even better if you wanted to. thank you for sharing such a message to the world and the www. refreshing!
