Throwback to a Better Me

Adolescence

A turbulent time

New emotions

Fresh fears.

You say you know everything

But you think you know nothing

Wanting to stand out from the crowd

While trying to blend in.

How did we ever cope?

What if we never coped at all?

It started from one

Someone you knew all your life

You thought she was strong

Brave

Coping.

One by one

The dominoes fell

Till all the walls were red.

Like a virus it spread

Neighbours

Friends

The ones who welcomed it,

A toxic medicine

Decorated with flowers and hearts.

Then the doctor came along.

Her world got bigger

And her heart got shipped off

To everyone she touched.

With her limited powers

She lifted people up

But in doing so

Her feet dug

Deeper

Deeper

Into the ground

And her heart returned

Bruised, blackened and drained.

You can’t grow without pain.
