Step Dad, Jim

I saw a young kid thumbing, I pulled over to see

If the kid was going, the same direction as me

He was young and scared, it was obvious as could be

What could have driven this kid to be on the streets?

I asked him why he’s out here traveling alone

He said anywhere was better, than what he left at home

I found out the boy was only sixteen

He said his parents were just too mean

I tried to talk to him, he wouldn’t listen at all

When I said “why don’t we stop, and give your mom a call”

He said she wouldn’t care, she had her own plans

So, whatever he did was out of her hands

She wasn’t always like this, just since she met him

Now, he had a stepfather, his name was Jim

Jim tried to do the things his father did

Aah! I suddenly realized, what happened to this kid

He said his dad had left; it’s been a year or two

He's so lost without him; he doesn’t know what to do

So he hit the highway, he said it’s his plan

To search, and search, until he finds the man

I finally convinced him,  to let me take him home

I told him it’s too dangerous to be out here alone

I called his mom, I talked to Jim too

Told them, what the kid thought he had to do

When we pulled up, the lights were off inside

tBut, there was one person still sitting outside

You could hear the sound, as they softly cried

The young kid couldn’t believe his eyes

It was JIM
