LITTLE LIGHTFOOT
LONG AGO THERE WAS AN ELEPHANT NAMED OMAR, WHO ROAMED THE MAJESTIC LAND OF AFRICA. THE EXOTIC ANIMALS WERE HIS FRIENDS, AND THEY FOLLOWED HIM EVERYWHERE.  EVERYONE LIVED IN HARMONY ACROSS THE BEAUTIFUL LAND.  ONE DAY OMAR SAW SHALA, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ELEPHANT IN THE JUNGLE.   OMAR STOOD STILL IN THE WILDERNESS, HE COULDN'T MOVE, NEVER HEARD A SOUND AROUND HIM. HE COULD ONLY SEE SHALA.  OMAR SUDDENLY CAME TO HIS SENSES AND GAVE SHALA A BRANCH FROM THE TALLEST TREE, JUST TO SHOW HER HOW STRONG HE WAS. SHALA SOUNDED HER TRUMPET AS SHE SCAMPERED AROUND IN A BASHFUL DANCE. THE TWO WERE INSEPARABLE FROM THAT MOMENT ON.  MANY MONTHS LATER OMAR AND SHALA HAD A BEAUTIFUL BABY ELEPHANT.  THEY NOTICED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH HIS FOOT AS HE TRIED TO WALK THROUGH THE JUNGLE. THERE WAS A BLACK SPOT ON IT AND HE WOULD LIMP. THEIR BABY ALSO FOUND IT HARD TO KEEP UP WITH THE HERD. SHALA AND OMAR ALWAYS WALKED BEHIND WITH THEIR SON. ALWAYS PROTECTING HIM FROM THE LIONS, AND OTHER DANGEROUS ANIMALS. SOON IT WOULD BE TIME TO GIVE THEIR SON A NAME, SO THEY DECIDED TO NAME HIM LIGHTFOOT, BECAUSE OF HIS ABILITY TO WALK LIGHTLY OVER THE BRUSH IN THE JUNGLE DUE TO HIS LIMP.   ONE BEAUTIFUL DAY WHILE SLEEPING AND PLAYING AT THE RIVER, THEIR PARADISE WAS INTERRUPTED BY  THE SOUND OF THE MIGHTY HUNTERS.  EVERYONE RAN AS FAST AS THEY COULD TO AVOID CAPTURE.  EVERYONE BUT OMAR AND SHALA, THEY COULD NOT LEAVE LITTLE LIGHTFOOT BEHIND. RUN, LIGHTFOOT RUN, QUICKLY, SHOUTED SHALA.  OMAR SOUNDED HIS TRUMPET AS LOUD AS HE COULD HOPING TO SCARE THE HUNTERS, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. THE HUNTERS HAD SHOT LIGHTFOOT WITH A DART,  HE WAS FALLING BEHIND SHALA AND OMAR, SLOWLY GOING TO SLEEP. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THEIR BABY WAS CAPTURED, AND WAS BEING TAKEN AWAY.  SHALA CRIED "NO, NO PLEASE" AS SHE LOOKED BEHIND IN AGONY, THEY WERE LOADING HER SON INTO THE LARGE CARGO TRUCK. LIGHTFOOT  WAS GONE

MONTHS TURNED INTO YEARS, THE YEARS SEEMED LIKE ETERNITY TO OMAR AND SHALA, FOR THEY KNEW THEY WOULD NEVER SEE THEIR LIGHTFOOT AGAIN.  THEY HAD NO MORE CHILDREN, THE PAIN OF LOSING LIGHTFOOT WAS MORE THAN THEY COULD ENDURE. AT TIMES IT SEEMED THAT SHALA COULD HEAR HIM RUSTLING THE BUSHES IN THE NIGHT. SHE WOULD RUN TO SEE, BUT LIGHTFOOT WAS NOT THERE.  THE PAIN WAS SO GREAT, WOULD SHE GRIEVE FOREVER?
ONE RAINY DAY SHALA WAS WAITING ON OMAR IN THE JUNGLE WHILE HE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE IT WAS SAFE TO GO TO THE WATER. AS USUAL,WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY HAD PAINFUL MEMORIES OF WHAT HAPPENED AT THAT PLACE SO MANY YEARS AGO. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE SUN CAME THROUGH, THE BIRDS GREW RESTLESS AS THOUGH DANGER WAS NEAR.  THE ANIMALS OF THE JUNGLE WERE CONFUSED AT THE FEELINGS THEY FELT, DANGER? OR IMAGINATION?  THEY COULD NOT FIGURE IT OUT!  THEN A SOUND CAME FROM THE MOUNTAIN TOP, SO LOUD IT SOUNDED AS THOUGH A THOUSAND ANGELS WERE FLYING DOWN WITH THEIR TRUMPETS. IT SOUNDED AGAIN, AND AGAIN, UNTIL OMAR, SHALA AND ALL THE ANIMALS RAN TO SEE WHO THE MAJESTIC ONE COULD BE. AS THEY GREW CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE SOUND, THEY SAW A TALL WONDROUS ELEPHANT STANDING AS PROUDLY AS THE OVERWHELMING SOUND COMING FROM HIS TRUNK,. HE HAD ONE FOOT LIFTED UP AS THOUGH HE WAS A GIGANTIC STATUE.   IT WAS LIGHTFOOT!  HE WAS CALLING FOR OMAR AND SHALA. HE WAS HOME AT LAST!  RELEASED FROM THE VERY ONES WHO CAPTURED HIM SO MANY YEARS AGO. HE WAS TRULY A KING OF ELEPHANTS. OMAR AND SHALA THOUGHT THEY WERE DREAMING. COULD IT REALLY BE?  IT'S HIM, IT'S HIM SHOUTED SHALA AS SHE CARESSED, AND KISSED HER SON. SHALA KNEW IT WAS LIGHTFOOT BECAUSE OF THE WAY HE STOOD, SO PROUD BUT STILL LIMPING EVER SO SLIGHTLY THE BLACK MARK STILL WHERE IT WAS WHEN HE WAS A BABY.  IT HAD BEEN A LONG JOURNEY, BUT LIGHTFOOT WAS FINALLY HOME TO PROTECT HIS AGING PARENTS, JUST AS THEY TRIED TO PROTECT HIM.  NOW LIGHTFOOT LEADS THE HERD, HE CALLS THE WILD, AND IS PROTECTOR ALL. HE STILL HAS HIS LIMP, BUT NO ONE CARES FOR HE IS TRULY  "THE NEW KING OF THE JUNGLE".

I liked the story, very cute as she say's, but I thought the phrase "a mother (or father) knows thier own" fits that comment. Very good writing!

Cute story. You might also add that when they saw him grown up, he came toward them limping & they immediately realized it was h im. The way you wrote it, it doesn't explain how they knew it was him.
