Forever Apart
I can't believe I'm sitting here
Watching you walk down the isle
Your face looks so beautiful
As you turn to me and smile
Everyone knows I should be the man
Waiting there for you
They all know I love you
And you still love me too

Years ago I went away
Though you begged me to stay
I came back to find you
But, it's your wedding day
I didn't know when I left here
I'd leave without my heart
That you would marry another
And we'd forever be apart

You take his hand
Speak your vows
As a tear falls down your face
Does the tear show the love you still feel for me?
Or the man who's taking my place?
I'll never know the answer
For you just said "I DO"
I'll always wish I'd been the man
Who said those vows with you.

This would most make the most beautiful country song. I'm not a country music fan normally but the words to this one would get me in...I saw the whole sad scene unfold; felt the loss; heard the unspoken questions. Lovely...thank you.

So sad yet so true. This poem reminds me of the one I posted titled "What Did He Do?". I feel for you here for I went through this exact same thing. You write for all of us. Thanks!!!
