Duty Calls

I sit here trying to drink my coffee

Chaos all around me

My head pounds as the sound of yet another conflict arises

I lay my head back and think of a calmer, more stable time in my life

I vision myself sitting on the beach close to the shoreline

Waves come in and softly cover my feet with the warm water

I can feel the sand erode under me as the waves return it to the sea

With one loud shout "mommy" I am brought back to reality

I look down at two beautiful eyes looking up at me and realize how blessed I am

Putting down my coffee, I pick up my child and give thanks

Even through all the pandemonium, I am thankful to have my family

The sea will call again, but next time I will fold up my chair, smile at the ocean,  and say

"Duty Calls"

As a mother I can really relate to your poem Biddix. Your 9th line is my favorite... a vivid image! -starlingpoet

Synopsis
Sometimes life get's the best of us, then we realize "WE WOULD NOT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY"
A Word from the Writer
Family is everything, a price far too high to pay to have a few moments of pleasure doing something with really no meaning at all.
