DEPRESSION
I am lonely sitting here in this dark, empty house
There is a depressed mood intertwining my mind
I have nowhere to go, no one to go with
The news shows Christmas shoppers on tv
Watching the hustle and bustle of people running around trying to find the perfect gift, makes me tired
I would love to feel that excitement they feel
But this cloud that hangs over my head, brings the rain, tears flow
If I could just find it in my heart to open the curtains that have become a part of my darkness
Walk outside these walls of my room, that has become my prison
Feel life again, instead of the heaviness of my heart as I try to take a deep breath
Maybe I could feel the warmth of the sunshine on my face
Hear the music, and once again let my heart sing
I would feel alive again, feel a yearning to explore tomorrow
Forget these days of utter despair

I agree with Coo. The emotion is so strong. And something like depression can be so strong that it can cause what you say in your synopsis.

Synopsis
DEPRESSION CAN CRIPPLE THE STRONGEST MAN, SHAKE A FAMILY'S FOUNDATION, LEAD A PERSON INTO A DARK HOLE THAT, IF THEY ARE NOT CAREFUL, THEY MAY NEVER CLIMB OUT OF AGAIN.
