Alone
Sad eyes looking at the ground
While strangers lay his mother down
Too young to truly understand
He drops the flowers from his hand
Where will he go?
What will he do?
His daddy left when he was two
No one left to take him in
They say he has no next of kin

Sitting in a strange room, on a strange bed
The little boy lays down his head
Too proud to let the tear drops flow
So scared, but wants no one to know
I'll make it through this world alone
One of these days I'll go back home
Mama here's a prayer for you
I love you, and I miss you too

A stranger standing at the door
With eyes I know I've seen before
The voice, the laugh I've heard that too
Tell me daddy
Is that you?
Alone now I will never be
For daddy came to rescue me
A home, my dad, a puppy too
but, Mama, I'll always be missing you

Thank you for the happy ending to such a prettily written poem. If only those happy endings occurred more often in real life, eh? A gentle, moving piece. Thank you.
