A SINGLE BLACK ROSE
There was a girl who lived long ago
What ever happened to her, no one knows
She seemed so distant, understood by few
She stayed to herself, where she lived, no one knew

They say she always wore second hand clothes
Most of her shoes had holes in the toes
Her hair was a mess most of the time
They said the girl was so poor, she didn't have a thin dime

Months passed by, no one saw the girl
Rumors and gossip started to unfurl
A crowd started to gather, fear set in
Some thought they'd never see the girl again

Eventually the crowd finally found her home
They thought she might have lived there alone
But, when the maid came to the door
She was soon accompanied by three, or four more
Our Madam, said you would one day be here
She left only this note, sealed with her tears
All she ever wanted was friend or two
But you shunned her, because you thought she had less than you
She died a lonely heiress with a vast fortune untold
But, all she left to the people of the town, was a single black rose.
