I won't give details, but as for my novel I'm writing now, it's my first and I might actually finish it. Holy cow! Whodda thunk? LOL. I was doing great on the writing over the summer, but then my daughter started school (preschool) my husband finally went back to work and I got landed with two colds in a row. Now that I'm healthy again, I'm trying to get back into the swing of writing, but I have to retrace all my steps first. And keep pushing back the ideas for the next novel I want to write. Trying not to get distracted, I'm convinced the reason I've never finished a novel (I'm 32 now) is because I would find it too easy to write 3 different stories at once. What a mess!

I'm trying once again to write my novel. The last few times I've tried to write it, something always happens and I lose track, and scrap the plan. I've had the ideas brewing for the last few years, and this time I nearly went mad trying to keep them stored in my head. I figured it must be time to give it another swing.
Basically, it's a sci-fi/fantasy, with a mixed theme of adventure/comedy/romance and tragedy/anger/redemption. Got the whole thing kinda compressed in my, head, it's just the transfer of thought to material on paper/computer that's difficult. I don't quite know how to explain it perfectly, but it's almost like whenever I write something, I always look back over my work with too much critique, and end up hating my own writing. It's been a pain in the rear for me for awhile, let's hope I can conquer it this time.

I have written my novel but it is in writers draft at the moment. I have then been proof reading it to amend. Now I am going through it all again to get everything finalised so I can start sending it out to agents and publishers. I have started a list :) I've got other stories on the go to but "Drift" is the one I am concerntrating on getting perfect right now.

I am nearing the end of my first novel. It is historical, set in Australia and is based on my family history, . I was fortunate to find a mass of newsarticles on this particular family and they were in and out of court many times, it provided great writing material ie: Arson, murder, theft, you name it!
I am up to 20,000 words, but for me, the hard part is to decide which newsarticles to use and which to leave out. Some articles are short and sweet but on their own would make a great chapter. I have to do a lot of research as I am trying to keep the facts as they were, but still add a bit of imagination to make the story more exciting.
I still have at least 5 more articles to turn into chapters.

I've fianlly set off writing my first novel. It started off as a quick brainstorm, but is quickly forming into a novel. I guess it would fall into a thriller type category. The general plot is a bit cliche but i've noticed that can be common in thrillers. As it is still unfinished its tough to give a description. It's based along a fictional concept that a primordial collective consciousness inherited man throughout time, as a person dies that consciousness moves on to a new person and continues to record experiences. As it is an unstable entity, portions of a prior experience tend to slip into a current memory, thus deja vu and ideas of previous lives. A group is hell bent on accessing this cache of universal knowledge. However, by accessing this knowledge throws the universe into a widening chaos. In attempt to restore balance the universe is theorized to collapse and begin again as it has so many times before. It is later discovered that a "council of fate" has disseminateed the keys to unlocking this celestial conscious knowledge throughout the world throughout time. Due to the importance of these "keys", the artifacts have disappeared with the cities the reside in (Shangri-la, El Dorado, Atlantis etc.). A group of scholars discover a way to access the previous "lives" to piece together the clues to discovering these lost cities in the present. However, so have the antoginists. Traveling through time escaping from villians and searching for cluse to lost civilizations, all while keeping the universe from imploding on itself. I have a draft of the first couple chapters if anyone is interested or can point me in the way to post it. I know it seems tough to understand, but i guess it eventually explains itself.

I have just gotten news recently that someone actually wants to publish my novel after years of writing and about a hundred rejection letters :-) If you are at the point where you are sending out query letters to every publishing company and agent you find, KEEP GOING. It only takes one!!!

I'm just starting my first novel: The Midnight Broadcast. The story is about a teenager who comes to Tokyo during a series of murders happening in the area to live with his uncle Hideo, who is a detective on the case. While Hideo is trying to discover the killer(s) in each case, Kenji discovers a channel that comes on at midnight and gives a countdown to the next murder until every Friday at midnight, where an anonymous person with the pseudonym "Justice" declares the sins of the public and orchestrates another murder. After a student in his school gets killed in the process, Kenji along with his newfound friends work together to fight the source of the murders, Justice, in order to stop the killings in ways that the police are unable to do, such as getting into the network of the Midnight Broadcast. However, in doing so, they may find out that their justice and his may not be so different after all...

The story, more so than the murders themselves (though they are graphic and important to the story), focuses on the characters, their relationships, their stories, the connections of all the deaths and Justice's philosophy and reason for orchestrating each death. Though it starts off as more of a brutal story, it winds up being more of a psychological thriller/mystery that challenges people to think about what is truly "justice" and what it means to have (and take) a life. It will also kind of give my take on the violence that we see in the media nowadays. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

My page has the first few writings, so check it out if you have time!

I had written a Young Adult novel about eight years ago, but failed to find an agent. I suppose I could try again... I am currently working on my first adult novel, a lesbian drama (I don't want to give too much away). Unlike some others that I've read posts by, I don't seem to have ideas for several books swimming through my head; I'm afraid I might be a one- or two-trick pony. I think the thing to do is write day by day and see what happens. I'd give anything to become a prolific writer, but we'll have to wait and see. I just know that I love writing and I currently have a story to tell.

I won't reveal much about the novel I'm working on, since it seems being paranoid of people copying your work is a lot more common than I thought, so I'll tell you what's safe for me. It's a sci-fi western, but not like Firefly. I guess it's a bit like Borderlands, since everyone's stuck on a desert planet, and there's bandits and hostile wildlife. It's got undead cowboys, absurdly large mechs, mad scientists, and enough references to Primus songs to risk getting sued over. It's got a deeper story than that, but I'm not going to reveal it because not only am I paranoid, but I may spoil it a bit. Anyhow, if anyone knows of a closely knit sci-fi writing community that could help me out, please tell me. I would appreciate it.

Hi joshb1000,
I like that idea of yours. You're right about it falling in the category of a thriller and it might be a bit cliche' but you've given it a good plot, keeping it different from anything I've read so far in it's own way. :)
I've just started writing my 1st novel as well. I have about the first 9 chapters written and a rough draft of the next probably 11 chapters. But have been facing a writer's block recently..... So now when I'm trying to retrace my steps in order to get the words flowing once again, I'm thinking I still need a lot to do in order to chalk out every tiny detail of the story. Tough stuff!
I would say that my novel falls in the sci-fi\fantasy genre since I've added a little more advanced technology in our world of today.

Hi maxwelldaring
If you've found this closely knit sci-fi community of writers you were talking about, please do point them out to me too. Since it's my first novel and it's a little sci-fi too, I'll be glad for the assist.
