The sweat formed beads across his forehead as he ran through the forest. The trees were much thicker now, blocking out the setting sun. Difficult to tell what shapes were what. Mostly foliage he hoped. But the foliage hid the embankment. The sweat beads merged and fell into his eyes, clouding his vision. He stumbled. The ground disappeared. He rolled and rolled.

The dried leaves and debri from the ground scraped against his skin. He could feel the occasional rock and thorny branch break thorugh his tender flesh. He curled into the tightest ball that he possibly could. Rolling and rolling. He couldn't imagine how far off the path he was falling, or how he was ever going to get back. Worst of all, he had know idea what was going to stop his fall.

It seemed that he had been falling for minutes when he woke. It was then that he realized that the tumble had ended at the edge of a fast moving river. The same large rock that had knocked him out for who knows how long had also stopped him from ending up in the water. All he knew was that it was dark and what little supplies that were in his small backpack were gone, probably ripped off his arm during the fall. His head pounding, he strained to hear over the rushing water. Was he imagining the sounds? Were they real? Could the stories he heard the night before be true?
